Luke the Fireman visits Room 7

Daisy's Dad Luke came to visit our class on Friday to talk about being Fire wise.

Luke reminded us that we all need an escape plan out of our house for if we smell smoke, the smoke alarm goes off or there is a fire. We also have to have a meeting place.

We knew to escape a fire we need to get down, get low and get out fast.

We talked about checking our smoke alarms and how they need to be tested.

Most importantly we told Luke that matches and lighters are tools not toys. If we find them we will tell n adult to put them out of our reach.

Thank you for coming to talk to us and letting us try on your special uniform that you wear.

Hokey Pokey

We dissolved sugar and golden syrup till it boiled. We added baking soda and noticed the bubbles. The hokey pokey kept bubbling and flowed over the table. It tasted great and some of the kids helped clean up table.

Making sherbet

Making Sherbet. We tasted each ingredient then found out what it tasted like mixing them together.

Swirling milk

We made swirly milk. In a bowl we put milk and a few drops of food colouring. Then we put a drop of dishwashing liquid in the middle. The dishwashing liquid made the colours go swirly.

Making plastic from milk.

We made casein plastic. We heated milk till I was warm. We added food colouring and stirred in the vinegar. We squeezed out the whey and pushed the curds into play dough cutters. We left it to dry for a week. The plastic shrunk and went very hard.

Milk in school

Our first day of milk in school. We all enjoyed the milk. But we found it hard to fold up the packaging for recycling. We felt really lucky and couldn't wait for the next milk day.

Jelly experiment

We made 3 different types of jelly to see how water temperature effects the nod jelly. The first jelly was made to the recipe on the packet. It dissolved well and iIt turned out normal. The second was with cold water it turned out like coloured water the jelly crystals were soft but not dissolved. The third was using lemonade instead of water. It turned out slightly fizzy.
