Swirling milk
We made swirly milk. In a bowl we put milk and a few drops of food colouring. Then we put a drop of dishwashing liquid in the middle. The dishwashing liquid made the colours go swirly.
Making plastic from milk.
We made casein plastic. We heated milk till I was warm. We added food colouring and stirred in the vinegar. We squeezed out the whey and pushed the curds into play dough cutters. We left it to dry for a week. The plastic shrunk and went very hard.
Milk in school
Our first day of milk in school. We all enjoyed the milk. But we found it hard to fold up the packaging for recycling. We felt really lucky and couldn't wait for the next milk day.
Jelly experiment
We made 3 different types of jelly to see how water temperature effects the nod jelly. The first jelly was made to the recipe on the packet. It dissolved well and iIt turned out normal. The second was with cold water it turned out like coloured water the jelly crystals were soft but not dissolved. The third was using lemonade instead of water. It turned out slightly fizzy.
Pizza
Today we looked at how yeast makes our dough change. We talked about the gas that made our dough get bigger. At discovery time we cooked our individual pizzas. Yum!
Ice
Today we had 2 ice competitions. The first was who could melt their ice first and who could make their ice last the longest. Then we melted the big chunks of ice in the electric frying pan. We found out the ice was 0 degrees celsius, it started melting straight away, water vapour started to come up in the frypan at 60 degrees Celsius and it boiled at 100 degrees Celsius. All the ice took till morning tea time to evaporate away.
Zip bag icecream
Today we made icecream. We used 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 3 drops of food colouring and 2 tablespoons of sugar. We put I all into a small plastic bag. Then in a big plastic bag we put 1/4 cup of salt and 3 cups of ice. We then carefully placed the small zip bag into the big one and zipped it up. Remember to squeeze out as much air as you can out of the bags. We also tried double bagging the small bag as we didn't want any salt to get into our icecream. You need to then massage the milk until it becomes solid icecream.
We noticed that the icecream tasted like vanilla icecream but it melted really fast.
